Donald Sobeys has passed away aged 86.  He was the son of Sobeys founder John W. Sobey.  

He started in real estate financing before working directly with Empire Companies, which was created to diversify the family's business interests. Donald become company president in 1969 and chairman in 1985.  He was a member of the board of directors for 52 years (1963-2015).
