On November 28, 2013 in the United States thanksgiving will coincide with the first day of Hanukkah, a rare occurrence that presents grocery retailers with a unique marketing opportunity. Nicknamed 'thanksgivukkah' the occasion has already sprung a number of thanksgiving themed Hanukkah food items including the turkey stuffed sufganiyah (doughnut).
Supermarkets are already using the occasion to promote new product offerings combining the best of both holidays. Food markets in America have proven to be quite innovative : turkey and cranberry sauce is being promoted alongside potato latkes and sufganiyah.
Note: this applies to the USA. In Canada October 14th was Thanksgiving day.
